Who is an Apprentice of Jesus?

As Jesus’ apprentice (disciple, student) I am learning from Him how to lead my life in the Kingdom of God as He would lead it if He were I.
I am with Him in all my circumstances learning to be like Him
  • Apprentice

  • Disciple

  • Student of Jesus

Learning to follow Jesus means becoming an apprentice, a disciple, a student of Jesus. As Americans, we may like to call ourselves Christians but we most likely can’t honestly say we are students of Jesus. In reality, there is no spiritual power in being a Christian without starting as an apprentice, a disciple, a Student of Jesus.

    Proclamation

Acts 8:5-8 : Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ. And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip, when they heard him and saw the signs that he did. For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who had them, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was much joy in that city.” Acts 8:5-8 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/act.8.5-8.ESV

The Name of Jesus was Part of The Good News

    Acts 8:9-13

But there was a man named Simon, who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was somebody great. They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the power of God that is called Great.” And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic. But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles performed, he was amazed.” Acts 8:9-13 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/act.8.9-13.ESV

Three Main Aspects of Discipleship

  1. Learning to do what Jesus did and what Jesus taught.

  2. Learning to handle the ordinary events of daily life within the principles and power of God’s Kingdom Rule. Ex. Running a business, a difficult committee meeting, a family dispute, writing a book, living through some political dispute.

  3. Learning to act with God’s power in bringing the Kingdom to bear on obvious human need, individual and social.

The Spirit

The interaction of The Holy Spirit is central to transformation. The Holy Spirit is God’s Way of interacting in my life. The Son, Jesus, is the Logos. The Word of God. In His Word, everything is made that was made. Jesus said, I must go away so that the Comfortor will come.

2 Peter Chapter One

May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ 2 Peter 1:2-11 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/2pe.1.2-11.ESV

Collasions 3: 12-17

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:12-17 ESV
